Nuclear Iran

I am getting those old feelings again.

I went through grade school in the 60's and can remember the once a month drills with the air raid sirens going off and crouching under the desk, hands clasped over the back of our necks, in preperation of nuclear attack. "Duck and Cover". Wouldn't have done any good, but it was the best they could come up with.

On through the 80's and the fall of the USSR, there was always that feeling that civilization could end right now due to something I may not even had the chance to hear about. My "Doomsday Clock" (this link: the Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiller covers how it works with commentary) moved back several minutes when Gorbachev let the wall be torn down.

Now, with Iran on the verge of developing WMD's, openly stating their desire for the eradication of Israel and willingness to forgo moneies from oil sales to achieve power in the Gulf Region, I have that feeling in my gut again.

Even with the Soviet's I figured that they didn't want to really lauch against us because of "Mutually Assured Destruction" (MAD), they did care about their country and people to the point that it actually worked, as insane has the concept was.

With Iran, MAD just doesn't seem to fit into the picture. If they launch 2 or 3 nukes at Israel, they know one of two things will happen. The US and Eurostan will stand by and do nothing, or we'll make martyr's of all of them so they get their 72 grapes.

A country that has the basic belief of paradise by dying sees itself in a win-win situation. This is not a reassuring position for a nuclear stand-off, therefore I feel that any premptive strike aginst Iran is justified and should be carried out as soon as enough information has been gleaned to assure us of taking out enough sights that their program is nullified, then we can restart talks on peaceful nuclear energy for the country.

When china developed the bomb and was in the throes of the Cultual Revolution they were much more conserned with getting the population in line than actually launching missles. They made a lot of noise about having nukes so the US wouldn't get to heavy with them at a vunerable time for them. They were very busy purging and reeducating their intellectuals.

IMO, Iran is dopey enough to take a shot at Israel(who is nuclear)and will proke a responce from both Israel and the US.
