Have We Forgotten?

I'm coming in just under the wire here, and it doesn't make me happy.

I knew that this anniversary of our countries finest moment was here, and yet I almost let it slip past. I forgot to put my flag out this morning, and even though I finally realized what this day was, I put off posting.

I am ashamed!

There was very little on the news today about a day that shaped my entire life.

That D-day could pass with such little acknowledgment of the sacrifices of the generation before mine makes me fear more for the generation that is coming behind mine.

What is this day? What did it mean to those in Europe that where waiting for someone to throw off the oppression of NAZI socialism?

I give you a video of a French citizen who, even though he had to go through an interpreter, needed to express his feelings about what America did for his country.



God bless our soldiers both past and present. May we always stand for right and to free those who are under fascist regimes.

May we not forget what they did, EVER.

Love Your Children More Than You Love Death

With the Israeli's interdiction of the "Gaza Flotilla" this week I decided to take a little tour through You Tube land and see what videos were around on everyday life there. We always hear about the starving children and lack of water and gasoline, and I saw LOTS of videos depicting this. The thing I noticed about most of the videos with his perspective was that they were put out by "Human Rights" groups to show that their getting "much needed" supplies to the dying people of Gaza.

I took me a while, but I did find these, all taken in 2010:

Airport body scanners violate Islamic law, Muslims say

"It is a violation of clear Islamic teachings that men or women be seen naked by other men and women," reads the fatwa issued Tuesday. "Islam highly emphasizes haya (modesty) and considers it part of faith. The Quran has commanded the believers, both men and women, to cover their private parts."

The decision could complicate efforts to intensify screening of potential terrorists who are Muslim. After the Christmas Day bombing attempt in Detroit by a Muslim suspect from Nigeria, some have called for the use of body scanners at airports to find explosives and other dangerous materials carried by terrorists. Some airports are now in the process of buying and using the body scanners, which show in graphic detail the outlines of a person's body.

But Muslim groups say the scanners go against their religion. One option offered to passengers who don't want to use the scanners would be a pat down by a security guard. The Muslim groups are urging members to undergo those instead.

The only reason they are installing these body scanners is BECAUSE of the Muslims. If their religion says they can't go through a scanner like the rest of us are forced to do, then the simple solution they don't fly.

Solves two problems at once. They don't have to risk their modesty and I don't have to worry about some towelhead blowing up the plane. Flying is a privilege, not a right, so they can take their fatwa and shove it.

Good Sign or Bad Sign?

With my son being part of the trip wire defense of S. Korea, I try to keep up on what is happening over there. Now, Chris, who is around 100 miles from the DMZ never hears anything about what the North is doing. It seems the only time the camp goes on any type of alert status is when the South Koreans are protesting something (which seems to be a weekly occurrence).

So it piqued my interest when I read this:

N.Korea calls for end to hostile relations with US

SEOUL — North Korea on Friday called for an end to hostile relations with the United States, vowing to work towards a nuclear-free peninsula seven months after its last atomic test angered the world community.

The call was made in a policy-setting New Year joint editorial of the communist country's state newspapers. North Korean people must learn and memorize the editorial, which is seen as ideological guidance for the year ahead.

"The fundamental task for ensuring peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the rest of Asia is to put an end to the hostile relationship between the DPRK (North Korea) and the USA," the editorial said.

"It is the consistent stand of the DPRK to establish a lasting peace system on the Korean Peninsula and make it nuclear-free through dialogue and negotiations," the editorial said, according to Pyongyang's Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

On the surface, this looks promising...BUT...I just don't trust them.

Our enemies know all to well that we have a weak administration that is happy to talk and talk, give unilateral concessions and tell us that "progress" is being made. Iran and North Korea have been yanking our chain for years buying time to continue their programs.

The other thing that worries me about this is whether this is a set-up? Life isn't getting better in the North, so why not talk peace and get the ROK to ease up and let us relax, then hit hard and fast.

I've not seen a scenario where the North could win a war, but it would be a bloody mess while it lasted.

On the flip side, it could be real. I would certainly love a very scary situation to go away and allow the families that have been separated for 56 years (my entire life) to be reunified.

That said, what would that mean to the 30,000 U.S. troops stationed there? Would they be pulled and sent other places? It doesn't make me sleep better having Chris in Korea, though I am proud of him. As a Dad, I'd be happier with him at Ft. Rucker in Alabama. It could turn out to be a frying pan/fire thing if he gets moved to the ME. He says he could use a deployment to a hot spot if he decides to stay with the Army and he is Gov't Issue, so where he ends up isn't up to either of us.

It's a new year, so right now I think I'll be a little optimistic and hope that this decade brings a little peace to part of the world.

So long ago. Oh Lord, may we remember the sacrifices of our Fathers, Grandfathers, and now our Great Grandfathers who stood up to defend this great country and may we prove worthy of that sacrifice.

Death of the F-22?

I woke up early this morning (3AM) so I could IM with my son in Korea. He did have two E-mails waiting for me when I got up:

I just read that Gates is canceling the F-22 program. Really??? He said that we are just going to use the F-35 and because the 35 is based a lot off of the 22, we don't need to put that much more into the program. And other countries want to buy the 22 but Congress has put it into law and kept it that we can't sell it to other countries. A lot of other countries want to wait out for the 35 now. If we are going to export that and not the F-22... I just don't get it. But whatever.

How Chris ended up in the Army is beyond me. For as long as I can remember, he was always about aircraft. When the F-22 first came out I hated it...it was going to replace my beloved F-15, Chris just couldn't understand my attachment to "archaic" technology.

I was convinced (grudgingly) he was right when we saw the Raptor fly at Edwards Air Force Base at an Air Show with AFJROTC. In 20 years of Air Shows, I'd never seen a jet that maneuvered like that, and coupled with the stealth technology and the "super cruise", I was sold.



We knew that we had maintained air superiority for the next 20+ years. Of course the gov't doesn't see it that way. His second Email had some conflicting news articles:

To me this is the typical short sightedness the gov't usually displays, just like the kerfuffle over body armor at the start of the Iraqi war. The gov't decides we can cut the military budget by getting rid of something "not needed" right now, then screaming to high heavens that they "Shocked!, Shocked!!! I tell you!!!" that the needed equipment isn't there when required.

The Russians have 2 versions of Next Generation jets in production right now, and the WILL sell versions of it to get cash, not to mention the Chinese getting one and reverse designing it.

In about 10 years, our jets are going to be blown out of the sky, and congress and everyone who is saying we can't afford it now is going to be the first screaming about "How come someone didn't see this coming?" and this won't be just about old body armor or Humvees that aren't upgraded, this will mean major battles lost being the guys we're fighting have better planes than we do.

Air superiority is not something we can just ignore for years and then crank out a bunch of planes when we need them. In 10 years when the should have been there...the company that made them, the people that knew how to put them together, and the pilots that know how to fly them are gone.

The F-35 is a fine plane...for what it was designed to do. Land attack missions. which is fine if you're fighting the Taliban, but when we have to face the new Russian designed planes and their knockoffs, we're going to lose a lot of 35's.

Times Change

When I was a lad (8 to 16) my parents would send me "up north" to Aunt Lee and Uncle Curt's place in Bayside, Ca.. Bayside was a little town about half way between Eureka and Arcata. This was rural country. I mean rural. People living on a few acres of land raising vegetables, corn, potatoes and berries. There were barns to play in and a "crick" running through the back yard (if you could brave the stinging nettles to get to it).

There were pumps to bring the water up from the crick and they burned their trash in a 55 gallon drum in the back yard. There were no street lights and nobody wanted them.

You had to cross the neighbors sheep pasture to go hiking in the Redwoods across the street.

Being a "city boy" this was my training ground for doing real chores. I could sleep in as late as I wanted, but I was always given something to do the next day. Mow the back section, weed the corn, paint the fence, roto-till the bean patch. When my project was done, I was free to go off on my own (Just remember, suppers at 4:30 and if your more than 15 minutes late...).

At that time, I thought most of the folk up there were ancient, you know in the 40's to 60's, but I loved talking to these "old farts", they were real people, They had jobs, plus they worked their little bit of land because they liked doing it, or they were retired and loved keeping busy. My Uncle Curt was around 70 when I stared going up there, had gone through 2 heart attacks and was still up at dawn (literally) and doing something around the place until Aunt Lee got breakfast cooked.

The reason I'm telling you about this childhood experience is last night I read an article that made me realize that this bit of heaven probably doesn't exist anymore.

Calif. towns challenge feds on military recruiting

Two towns nestled in the rugged coastline and the liberal politics of Northern California have fought the federal government by banning the U.S. military from recruiting minors within their city limits.

Arcata — a town known for taking a stand against the USA Patriot Act and repeatedly passing symbolic measures to impeach President George W. Bush — approved in November an ordinance that would limit Armed Forces recruiters' ability to contact people under 18. And so did nearby Eureka, the Humboldt County seat.

My G-d, the people I knew living there 40 years ago would die all over again if they knew what that area has become.

"We fully expected a challenge, and we got it," said David Meserve, 60, a builder of environmentally friendly homes and former Arcata City Council member who spearheaded the measure. "But more importantly, people are becoming aware there is a problem — and the problem is the recruiting of minors."

The problem is...they don't recruit minors. They offer them a job opportunity to consider when they become adults.

"You will find that establishing trust and credibility with students, even seventh- and eighth-graders, can positively impact your high school and post-secondary school recruiting effort," reads The Recruiter Handbook, published in 2008 by the United States Army Recruiting Command.

The push to reach the young makes sense. A 2007 Department of Defense study found that at 16 years old, more than 25 percent of students considered joining the Armed Forces. By the time they were 21, only 15 percent considered joining.

Gee, going into the Army when you're 16 and getting to play with guns, tanks and other things that go boom sounds great...but a most get older, they realize there are other opportunities available and maybe they don't want to join the military.

My boy was Army from when he was around 8 or 9. Not through my pushing...and certainly not through his Mother's. He cut his hair short, wore camo and joined AFJROTC all on his own. I expected him to just enlist when he graduated, but he waited until he was 20.

So all those talks with recruiters, his paramilitary classes and his natural inclination to join where weighed out. I didn't know he had enlisted until the deal was done.

Meserve said he took up the fight one morning while sitting in a coffee shop and overhearing a National Guard recruiter giving three high school girls a hard sell. The sharply dressed young man bought them fancy coffee drinks and pitched the career opportunities, the scholarships, the camaraderie, while assuring them there was virtually no chance they would end up in a war zone, Meserve said.

This was in 2005, when members of the National Guard were regularly being sent to Iraq, he said.

"Hard Sell", I would guess that would be talking about all the positive aspects of the job. Like "We'll start you out mopping and cleaning, but soon you'll be on the fryer, then, you'll be running the grill and if you develop people skills working the register it's just a small step to Manager. From there you learn the knowledge to open your own franchise and then...Whoa...the money just rolls in".

The lawyer argues the ordinances prevent abuses without interfering with the federal government's ability to fill the ranks of the military. Anyone, independent of age, can still reach out to the military, he said, and recruiters are free to contact adults.

"If they don't contact minors, they can still meet their goals," Yamauchi said. "We believe there are limits to the federal power to recruit children."

They want to make this ordinance legal? Write it so that NO COMPANY can contact minors for jobs. That means no advertising a position unless specifically stated that those under 18 need their parents written permission to apply for the job.

My son chose to join the Army. He had my full support to do so, when he finished High School, and he had his Mom that was dead set against it. He waited until he was sure that he was doing what he wanted in his own time, in spite of the years of "hard sell" by his recruiters.

I can't say it enough. I'm damn proud of him!

He's going to Korea at the end of the month and it scares the hell out of me. It's a tossup whether Korea or the Middle East is the most dangerous place to be right now, but my son is going to be in Korea, so that makes it the most dangerous to me.

Terrorists Are U.S. Citizens Now

I'd been thinking about this since the ruling came down and trying to think of how this would pan out in the future. My thoughts went to the "unofficial" ROE are going to change. If the bastard we just rounded up from a location that we were receiving fire from most likely is one of the terrorists that was shooting at my squad and even though he is an illegal combatant, he now has U.S. constitutional rights if I arrest him and take him into custody, now gets to go through a U.S. federal court to make sure his "rights" weren't violated. What's next, reading Miranda rights to every terrorist we pick up?

As I was driving home this morning I came to the conclusion that there will be a lot less terrorists taken prisoner. The Geneva Conventions state that a combatant with no uniform can be summarily shot. No breaking of the rules here. All "civilized" nations have signed this agreement and have vowed to abide by the rules.

Right after my thoughts, on the radio, a Viet Nam vet was calling into Bill Bennett's show and brought up that back in that war, with no consistent ROE and no uniform for the enemy, the attitude was "better safe that sorry". If you thought they were the enemy better shoot them now rather than let them go and have to fight them again tomorrow.

War sucks! It always comes down to killing more of the guys on the other side than they kill on yours. The Geneva Conventions were drawn up to reduce the civilian deaths by establishing who was fighting for who by stating that uniforms must be worn. If you chose to ignore the rules, then any civilian deaths that occur due to your actions fall back on you.

Why I Won't Put Political Sticker On My Car

I live in SoCal, have all my life, but I wouldn't put a bumper sticker or anything on my vehicle stating my political views because I know it would bring "retribution." I'm one of those few that live here that believe in the conservative agenda, and that cannot be allowed.

I drive through Los Angeles daily. I see Clinton, Kerry and Gore stickers constantly. I may think they are fools, but to do any damage to their cars, doesn't cross my mind.

What is it about the liberal ideology that makes it alright to destroy property because someone has "perceived" (OMG, he had a Marine plate, he deserves at least a keying of his car) different leanings?

I saw this mind set with the Watts riots, the complaint against the police gave them the right to loot and burn down the local supermarkets. That led to over 30 years of no supermarkets in Watts. Worked out good for those families that had to ride a bus for 10 miles to get to a grocery store before the majors would risk the investment again.

Denial is strong in them, mein Emperor…..

I watched Flight 93 for the first time last night, I’ve avoided it for a long time as I just knew it would get me reeeealy pissed again. I was right…I’m reeeeealy pissed again. Then while listening to cnn this morning as I cooked breakfast, I heard the comment that the Annapolis peace talks are doomed to failure because the Arabs don’t trust The President…that all of his “Anti-Muslim” actions of the past 7 years have destroyed his credibility in that part of the world…..what anti-muslim actions do they mean? do they mean removing the taliban from power Afghanistan? or handing out toys and food to Iraqi children? or liberating their country and fighting the peace loving muslims that have killed them by the bushels full? or allowing muslims to practice their vile filthy religion in this country unimpeded and unrestricted?…..are THOSE the anti-muslim actions that they’re talking about?

Europe is done for, they’ve dismissed the lessons of 1917 and 1939, and they’re heading for a Dark Age that will make the atrocities of hitler look like so many parking tickets. From giant mosques next to the London Olympic complex to Theo Van Gogh getting stabbed by a muslim for his anti islam art to an English school teacher getting jailed for naming a teddy bear mohammed…..the march towards dhimmitude…nay…oblivion continues on. The cancerous parasites called muslims use our fear of them, and our fear of offending ANYONE against us. They know we will not speak out for fear of insulting them, so they keep beheading….and stabbing…and shooting…and raping…and mutilating…and exploding….and expanding…..expanding their black plague of submission and repression to every corner of the world…..and we in the west as a free, largely secular, tolerant society welcome them with open arms and subsidies and free passes to infect our culture with their pornographic delusions of paradise.

Since they are really into martyring themselves, we should encourage that…..with this stipulation, go ahead and buy your ticket into your heaven by blowing yourself up, only don’t you think it would be generous of you to do it in a swarm of your fellow practitioners of the sickness of islam? allah (arabic for child rapist) would surely smile on your selfless act of carrying swarms of your fellow muslims into paradise on your shoulders (or in little sandwich bags…depending on the size of the body parts).

Or we could make THIS announcement: any muslim who “martyrs” themselves, will…after the explosion….have his or her body parts collected and they will be processed into pig feed….that also goes for ANY muslim who is caught in the blast. Is that cold? is that insensitive? maybe so, but if muslims knew that they would be turned into pig poop, they might find it in their best interest to “discourage” these homicidal bastards……

It’s as plain as my shiny balding head that political correctness has retracted the nads of the ruling elite in the Netherlands. I would pose this solution to them: since Amsterdam is such a “gay friendly” city, why not open a few gay bars in the Muslim districts?…you know, just for inclusiveness’ sake….

And what is their motivation? It's not always what you think. Do you use a distraught girl who was injured in an accident and dumped by her boyfriend?


She says she didn't want to kill anyone...but she tried to pull the pin at the check point when stopped.

She'll still get the treatment she requires, but is she ever going to realize what she was going to do? Destroy a hospital that was going to help her and the people she lives with.

4) Allow Muslims to establish sharia law. This means that we should not interfere when they start killing apostates and stoning adultresses.

5) Stop all broadcasts to the Middle East. Apparently, they don't like CBN as much as they despise Spice. Especially broadcasts which try to alterfaith, minds, morals, and valuesSuch liberty loving people!

6) Free all Muslims from our jails.

On 31 May 2007, SINAN SALAHEDDIN, an Associated Press Writer reported that a suicide bomber had killed 25 and wounded 50 near Fallujah.

One from a Marine that was there:

“[D]ue to aggressive patrolling by Iraqi forces [a] bomber who doubtless wanted to target the civilians at the headquarters itself in order to cause the most catastrophic effects, was forced to detonate his vest almost a half-mile away when he was halted by police. He succeeded in causing superficial wounds to one Iraqi civilian, as well as killing himself. No one else was injured, no other damage caused, and in the aftermath of the incident, the precinct signed up an additional 75 recruits for police service. This bomber failed - he failed to kill innocents and he failed to deter the progress of standing up Iraqi police.

Go read the whole letter from the Marine and you'll understand why people just don't believe what is being fed to us by the Media.

Some Depressing Links

I got home tonight and started my perusal of web sites for what was happening today, and it just seemed to get more depressing the more I read.

One of the first things I ran into was a post by Micheal Yon on a horrific find when he wen into a Iraqi village with an Iraqi army unit. It's not pretty what the al-queda "freedom fighters" left behind. I'll let Micheal explain: Bless the Beasts and Children.

I then got to read about an insider's view of the TSA and the reasons you get to stand in lines forever with your shoes off to get on a plane: Knee-Jerk From The DC Jerks Again.

There was some good news today, even if it was a half-assed attempt of doing the right thing: Bush commutes Libby sentence.

Half-assed in that Libby should have been pardoned for being convicted of a non-crime, but the fine still has to be paid (this will be covered by donations), and he will lose his law license due to the conviction.

Ball-less George is guessing that by commuting the sentence, he gets the right off his back, but by not pardoning Libby, he will still look like he isn't completely caving in.

Didn't work.

And for those of you who think this is a "travesty of justice", just keep in mind Sandy Pantsburglar and...

16 members of FALN, a violent Puerto Rican nationalist group that set off 120 bombs in the United States mostly in New York City and Chicago, convicted for conspiracies to commit robbery, bomb-making, and sedition, as well as for firearms and explosives violations, and:

Carlos A. Vignali had his sentence for cocaine trafficking commuted, after serving 6 of 15 years in federal prison.

Susan McDougal, who had already completed her sentence, was pardoned for her role in the Whitewater scandal; McDougal had served 18 months on contempt charges for refusing to testify about Clinton's role.

Dan Rostenkowski, a former Democratic Congressman convicted in the Congressional Post Office Scandal.

Roger Clinton, the president's half-brother, on drug charges after having served the entire sentence more than a decade before. Roger Clinton would be charged with drunk driving and disorderly conduct in an unrelated incident within a year of the pardon.

And by all means lets remember this upstanding citizen: Marc Rich, a fugitive, was pardoned of tax evasion, after clemency pleas from Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak, among many other international luminaries. Denise Rich, Marc's former wife, was a close friend of the Clintons and had made substantial donations to both Clinton's library and Hillary's Senate campaign.-- One company from which Rich bought crude during this period was a front for extremist Russian and Ukrainian organizations. All were pro-Saddam; one was a staunch supporter of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il. Another company was tied to a major money launderer for Saddam.

This last week at the CPAC meeting Matt Sanchez, a Marine reservist and student at Columbia University received the Jeanne Kirkpatrick Academic Freedom Award.

Being he was feted at this Right Wing gathering, the left had to dig into his past and see if they could dig up some dirt on him. Like most of us, he had something there, perhaps you could think worse than most, but he has moved past it and I know has made those that really know him proud.

That the "tolerant" left would condemn and threaten him for past transgressions, says a lot about their dedication to their stated ideals. They say he is a hypocrite, but to arrive at this conclusion, you have to use the New Left's Dictionary. This definition is "Hypocrisy: anyone who has done anything in the past and now renounces it and doesn't do it anymore and says that they no longer believes or practice the aforementioned ".

People change over a lifetime. My values have certainly changed.

Cpl. Matt Sanchez served this country as a Marine, is now in the Reserves, is attending school, holds a job and still finds time to assist others at Columbia negotiating the hassles of getting the services and guidance that our Vets and Officer Candidate students do not receive from the University.

I wrote Cpl. Sanchez, just to let him know that he had friends out there. I told him he did not need to respond, but within an hour he wrote back just thanking me for the support. This was 2:00 AM his time. We need more men like this and we need to support them.

Remember Today

We were basically at peace. We didn't really want to get involved with the problems of all those people half a world away from us. On this day we were forced to take a position. The number of dead wasn't important. The ships lost, the airplanes, the point that woke us up and showed us that there was an enemy out there and they wanted to destroy our way of life was that they attacked America herself.

Bless those. like my Dad, who at a time where we easily could have given up with our fleet destroyed, could have just given up, but instead signed up to defend the principles of our country.

The sacrifices were incredible, to our unreal beliefs of how a war can be fought today (our soldiers don't get shot and there are not civilians caught in the fights). Thousands dying in one day, but no backing down on the home front. They knew evil when they saw it and were willing to stand up and face it.

My undying gratitude and God bless you all who fought or those who worked to support this cause.
